Bio

Lou Ferrigno AKA The Incredible Hulk is a former Mr. America and 2-time IFBB Mr. Universe. Ferrigno has starred in television and in movies, beginning with, above all else, The Incredible Hulk which aired on CBS from 1978-1983. Lou was also featured, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, in the bodybuilding classic documentary of 1975 "Pumping Iron," that focused on the rivalry between Ferrigno and Schwarzenegger.

Ferrigno was born in Brooklyn, New York and just after he was born, Ferrigno says he suffered a series of ear infections that caused him to lose between 75% to 80% of his hearing. Ferrigno overcame this disability with the use of hearing-aids and the ability to read lips. He attributes his enormous success in life to his hearing loss because it meant he had to overcome adversity. Today he is a motivational coach.

Ferrigno began weight training at age 13 and upon graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1969 he began his professional bodybuilding career. It didn't take long before he brought in his first major titles, IFBB Mr. America in 1973 and then IFBB Mr. Universe in the same year.

Ferrigno would go on to place strongly in the 1974 Mr. Olympia, coming in 2nd to Arnold Schwarzenegger. The following year Ferrigno placed 3rd. But these finishes alone were not enough to financially support Ferrigno. And he had to take a job as a sheet-metal worker at a factory in Brooklyn, earning $10 an hour. He never really liked the dangerous work, and left after three years when one of his co-workers accidentally chopped off their hand.

Ferrigno was later cast with his old co-star Bill Bixby in the 1977 TV movie "The Incredible Hulk."

Lou trained Michael Jackson off and on since the early 1990s, and helped Jackson get into shape for a planned series of concerts in London in 2009 before Jackson ultimately died in June that year.

Ferrigno competed in three more competitions in the early 1990s. His last competition was the Masters Olympia in 1994 in which he placed second. Thereafter, Ferrigno retired from competitive bodybuilding.

Today Ferrigno continues to make appearances in movies, TV and commercials. He had a cameo spot in the 2003 movie "Hulk" in which he played a security guard. He also made a cameo appearance in the 2008 rendition of the Hulk series in the movie "The Incredible Hulk," and was the voice of the Hulk.

Ferrigno lives with his wife of 30 years, Carla Green Ferrigno and together they have three children, and apart from his other ventures, he works as a fitness trainer.

In 2012, Lou Ferrigno appeared on the hit television show, Celebrity Apprentice, with Donald Trump.
